P.S - I Made This - I See It, I Like It, I Make It
by Erica DomesekYou might know Erica from her incredibly popular blog of the same name, P.S. I Made This. A stylist who has worked for Kate Spade, Anthropologie and Coca-Cola, she also judges on the Tori Spelling hosted show Craft Wars.
The book is seperated into two sections - jewellery and accessories. Each project is inspired by a collage of Erica’s favourite fashionable images. With over 25 projects, it really is value for money!
Though I have indeed featured some of Erica’s projects on my site, some of the projects in the book were a bit slap-dash. For every awesome project there seemed to be a project that felt a bit grade school. One project was a ruffled addition to a top - made from coffee filters. Another was a pair of champagne cork earrings. Personally, I would never wear a coffee filter ruff, but maybe I just don’t have the confidence?! When I make a DIY project I like it to be made well so that the average observer wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between something I’ve made and something I’ve bought. A lot of Erica’s projects are what I’d call Temporary DIY - meaning you might get a few wears out of them, but they’re not something you would be keeping for years to come.
But if you’re looking for a quick fix, then these projects are perfect - you don’t need a sewing machine or lots of expensive materials. Most projects could be made within fifteen minutes. They are great beginner projects for those looking to get into DIY without investing a ton of money into it! And who knows, maybe your coffee filter ruffle or champagne cork earrings will start a new fashion trend?!
Should I Buy It? - For the begginer DIYer, this is the perfect starter book!
